5 Points: Why This Motorcycle Trip Format Might be For You

Eric Lange
Since riding his KTM 950 Adventure down to South America in 2008 and launching RIDE Adventures in 2010, Eric now resides in Oregon for most of each year. Riding is still a regular part of his work though, in that guiding tours is a passion he'll always have, and researching new routes and regions allows RIDE Adventures to continue growing and providing reliable travel services to adventure minded riders and travelers from around the world.
Are you more of a "Lone Wolf" type of motorcycle rider who prefers to not be part of a group ... yet you can also appreciate the safety and security of having other riders or a support truck nearby? If so, then check out our Self-Guided, Truck Supported, "Full Patagonia Adventure" motorcycle trip package!

This trip format is one we've had in mind for a while, and has actually been requested by many of you over the years. Only this last Patagonia season though did we finally have the right opportunity to "test it out" a bit and see how it'll work.

As is explained in the brief video below, this "Self-Guided, Truck Supported" format might be exactly the type of package you're looking for in a Patagonia & Tierra del Fuego motorcycle trip. The 5 points from the video are:

1) This is THE Absolute Highlight Reel of Patagonia & Tierra del Fuego

First, if you've ever wondered what the best routes in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego are, look no further than this 17-Day itinerary. Our beloved customers, along with our own experiences as Guides riding in this region have concluded that this route shown on the Full Patagonia Adventure tour page is the best riding possible in the region. Many riders you'll see have even said it's the best motorcycle trip they have done, ever. Even the 3 Rest Day locations are such that riders can enjoy fly-fishing or whitewater rafting and kayaking on famous rivers like the Futaleufú, or Rio Baker. If you're more of a hiker, then look the chance to actually hike on top the Perito Moreno Glacier on our final rest day provides an experience like no other.

2) Self-Guided: Freedom & Sense of Adventure!

All_Blacks_Patagonia.jpgRiders who appreciate more of a "full service" guided motorcycle tour still have options with RIDE Adventures, but if you're more of a "Lone Wolf" who wants to stay away from groups when riding, then this package will definitely be of interest. Some riders just don't want to ride amongst others, and of course we all have a different ideal "pace" in mind. Heck, some riders take 10 seconds to put on their gloves before departing, and some take much, much longer! There's no waiting necessary in this trip format, and each rider can move along and explore the route as they wish. At the very least, we encourage a "buddy system" whereby you at least have 1 rider near you at all times, just as an added safety plan.

3) Support Truck Follows You

While the feeling of riding Self-Guided is important, having some safety and emergency measures in place is important also. One of our experienced Support Truck Guides will follow the group, carrying everyone's luggage, extra parts, tools, first aid, and satellite phone each day, and giving riders the chance to just "go ahead" at their own pace. Knowing that the Support Truck is following close behind is especially important in the remote territories of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, as almost anything can happen on such an adventure. Safety first. The route alone is impossible not to enjoy.

4) Hotels AND Motorcycle Rental are Included!

Nelson-Powers-Patagonia-Motorcycle-Rental.jpgDon't waste countless hours trying to figure international motorcycle shipping options which can be a HUGE mistake, or guessing which hotels might be best for your motorcycle trip in Patagonia. We've got our less-than-2-year-old Kawasaki and BMW GS motorcycles ready and waiting for those who make reservations in advance, and an excellent string of locally-owned hotels are all part of the package. This is a no-brainer, taking advantage of such a simple turnkey solution instead of doing all that work yourself. This is what we do! We allow you to focus on the FUN part of the motorcycle trip.

5) Great Dual Sport Riding

Araucania_Trees_Chile_Patagonia.jpgWhile some riders prefer pavement, there are those of us who crave the dirt. In many places around the world, it's still the non-paved routes that take us to the most remote, pristine and undiscovered sites and scenery that so few have yet to experience! At the time of this blog post, we still spent about half of our time on this Full Patagonia Adventure route off-pavement, with more and more pavement being installed each year in Chile and Argentina. SO, if you're like this writer/rider, and you want to experience Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego in it's most natural, untouched condition ... not only is this the best route to ride, but the time to do so is NOW! We lose about 10% of the route each year to new pavement. (Don't worry though, if you're a pavement-only rider, it'll still be great once the paving is done!)

Reservations for the Self-Guided, Truck Supported, "Full Patagonia Adventure" package all begin with a conversation, by contacting us at RIDE Adventures. Arrive at that tour page, and you'll see how easy that is to do. Don't wait long to reserve though, as some dates for the Patagonia riding season, which is October through April, can often sell out 6+ months in advance!
