Chile Motorcycle Adventure Tours

With a fascinating history of wars, coups, and dictatorships, Chile might seem like an unstable place to visit.  The TRUTH is, in recent years, Chile has been on the world stage and recognized for its economic growth, stability in government, and most certainly, enormous tourism potential.  This all plays out well for visitors as travelers arriving in Chile for the first time immediately recognize this and feel like they are welcome to stay.

The most recent and memorable headlines of Chile might bring images of near-record setting earthquakes, 33 trapped miners, and protests against the introduction of power generation dams being installed in Patagonia. While Chile does see much of the world's seismic activity and those miners did nearly suffer a most tragic demise, the greatest danger Chile faces right now is the destruction of its precious territory of Patagonia.

"I can't believe there isn't a huge resort right here!" one of our customers said during a 2011 motorcycle tour in Patagonia. Looking out over the shores of Lago General Carrera and the stunning scenery all around, Ian admitted he was glad to be seeing Chilean Patagonia as it was and before it undergoes such inevitable change in the future.

RIDE Adventures fully understands that we might be responsible for the change and development Patagonia will endure in years to come. Sending gas-powered vehicles like BMW F800 and R1200GS's through such a pristine place as Patagonia might seem morally reprehensible, but we continue to do so with the utmost care and respect for the land (as we do on all tours) and the thought of "taking only photographs, and leaving only tire prints."

Furthermore, we continue to promote motorcycle touring in Patagonia knowing that each rider who enjoys this region and sees Patagonia as it is now will be forever changed in their thinking about the natural world and how we treat it. It must be impossible for someone to first ride down the Carretera Austral, or see the Perito Moreno Glacier and not wonder what the rest of the world could look like if we were more careful with it.

Chile's not going anywhere, and neither is Patagonia; but our hopes for you are that you'll enjoy this amazing territory in it's current state and take the inevitable inspiration you'll feel back out into the world, and into your daily lives. (For the Wikipedia on Chile, click here.)
