Part of all motorcycle tours in Peru....MACHU PICCHU!

Written by Eric Lange | October 10, 2010

Is Machu Picchu the most famous site for motorcycle tours in Peru?  It might be the most famous in all of South America, and if so, it's for good reason.

Whether your motorcycle tour or rental in Peru begins in Arequipa, Arica, or Cusco, your arrival in Peru will be laced with fantastic scenery and well-paved roads the whole way.  Between that smooth pavement factor and the fantastic food you’ll experience in Peru, an adventure here could be seen as one of the more “luxurious” being offered by RIDE Adventures.

If taking a guided tour, your train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes will typically be arranged during daylight hours.  The scenery through the Sacred Valley should not be missed, as it feels like you’re saying goodbye to the rest of the world and sneaking off to a completely secret destination that, despite all its perceived fame, has still not been officially announced to the world.

Because only 400 people per day are allowed to hike to the top of Wayna-Picchu, and there are only a handful of buses that depart at 5:30 in the morning to ascend from Aguas Calientes to the base of Machu Picchu, this option needs to be seized at around 3:30am.

IF you climb to the top of Wayna Picchu, you might be surprised at the amount of responsibility South American tourism places in the hands of the tourists themselves!  Wayna Picchu is a non-stop climb along a tiny ledge with under-sized footsteps and rocks to support you the whole way.  For about the entire 2nd half of this hike, you’ll use your hands for support to keep yourself from slipping, which could lead to a fall where you literally end up skipping off the side of the mountain like a flat stone off of water.  No guard rails.  No waivers to sign before you start.  Just your own intuition as to whether or not you should be doing it!  (NOTE:  Wayna Picchu is definitely not a mandatory part of seeing Machu Picchu)

You’ve seen friends’ pictures of Machu Picchu, and heard all the stories about how Hiram Bingham introduced re-discovered The Lost City of the Incas in 1911.  When are you going to make your own experience out of it?  Be sure to contact us about setting up your motorcycle tour in Peru!
