Motorcycle Riding Safety with lights "Impossible to Ignore"

Written by Eric Lange | September 15, 2012

Rule #1 in motorcycle safety: Make sure you are being seen on your motorcycle ride!

An overwhelming percentage of car-motorcycle crashes involve the car driver saying "I never even saw the motorcycle."  Sad as this may be, it's also a reminder that we should be taking steps toward making sure our bikes are "Impossible to Ignore."

As the folks at Hyper Lites® are showing us with their modulating brake & running lights, car drivers are going to be running out of excuses once you've installed their lighting system.  Affordable and easy to install, why wait for someone to claim they never saw you?

This install was done on the 2012 BMW R1200GS Adventure.  The wiring harness shown was well-described in the Hyper Lites® instructions that are included with the lights.  Posi-Twist electrical connectors keep you from having to cut and splice within your bike's wire harness, and this job took less than 45 minutes.

There's an optional bracket available to position the flashing lights up higher (in the case of the R1200GS) and an easy to connect/disconnect feature of 1 wire that allows you to limit the flashing to 5 seconds per brake application.  (A useful feature so as to not annoy cars behind you when at a stop light.)

Amongst the many "no brainers" out there in the world of motorcycle safety, we'll say that the installation of Hyper Lites® nearly tops the list.  Flashing red lights are a worldwide signal for attention, so this is an excellent safety feature for your motorcycle!
